BHS TREC training days, Hereford

A series of BHS TREC training days and courses will take place in Hereford on the Welsh borders.

These include a Navigation Training course, PTV training (mounted), and a Kelly Marks indoor TREC competition.

Le Trec is a fun, friendly competition for riders of all ages and all types of horses and ponies, enjoying the fantastic British countryside. It involves three phases - orienteering on horseback (POR) over a set route which tests the rider's map reading ability, to be negotiated at set speeds; control of paces (CP) which tests the horse's obedience and straightness; and the PTV phase over natural fences and obstacles which test the horse's calmness and the partnership between horse and rider.

British Horse Society - Le Trec

Trec.jpgTrec is designed to encourage riders to train their horses and ponies to meet the demands of making a journey over unknown terrain. Competitors complete an orienteering course of up to 45 kms, then negotiate an enclosed course made up of the type of obstacles they could meet during a trail ride - fallen trees, water-crossings, ditches, hedges and similar 'hazards'. The British Horse Society is the governing body for the sport in the UK.

There are various levels of difficulty from Level 1 (beginners) to Championship and International standard. Competitions are held in some of the most beautiful areas of Britain, including the Welsh mountains.

Gower Riding Club BHS TREC Competition

The Gower Riding Club BHS TREC competition will be held at Gower Riding Club Field, Parkmill, Gower, Swansea on 12th April 2008.

Le Trec is based on a French sport, and was brought to the UK by the British Horse Society in 1998. Suitable for riders of all levels, and all types of horses, the competition consists of three phases: a ridden orienteering phase, a 'control of gaits' phase in which horse and rider must walk and canter a straight course at a controlled pace, and an obstacle phase in which horse and rider must negotiate a series of obstacles, some ridden and some in-hand, over natural jumps, through gates and over similar hazards which might be met on a trail ride.

Le Trec in Wales is proving to be enormously popular, and competitions take full advantage of Wales' fantastic horse riding country by setting fun and challenging courses through beautiful landscapes.

This Level 1 competition (suitable for complete beginners to Le Trec in Wales) will include routes mainly on bridlepaths and some quiet lanes through lovely countryside.

There will be classes for both pairs and individuals.

See the Gower Riding Club Le Trec website for an entry form. Entries are limited and strictly in advance.
