  • Q. I don't have a horse - how can I get involved?
  • A. There are lots of ways to get involved without owning a horse. Go along to shows, watch what goes on, and enjoy the atmosphere. There are numerous shows, affiliated (official) and unaffiliated throughout Wales, and throughout the year, from small local shows to major three-day shows with qualifiers for the UK Championships (see our Shows section). Or find a riding school from our Riding Schools page (see Learning to Ride) - many hold their own shows or competitions offering newcomers to riding their first opportunity to take part in showing competitions. If you would like to be more involved in the organising side, most show organisers will be delighted to welcome volunteers - contact the Show Office of your local show.
  • Q. I'd like to show my horse - how do I get started?
  • A. At unaffiliated level, you will be able to show your horse using your normal tack. You will need to wear pale coloured jodhpurs and a hacking or show jacket, and riding boots, and your horse will need to be clean and tidy. At higher levels, your turnout will need to be to a very high standard to be in with a chance of winning. However, many competitors simply enjoy the competition for the sake of it, whether they win or not.
